Jaw

I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 20years now.
I am wondering if anyone has had it in their Jaw.
I am finding it hard to eat without it clicking or grating.
Does anyone have the same
Susie

  1. I can only imagine how painful it is to have jaw pain. While you wait for others to share their experience, I want to share with you an article that speaks on jaw pain and RA. You can access it here- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/jaw-pain-tmd. I hope it can offer some insightful as to what you can do to manage the pain your feeling. Please let us know if you have any questions after reading. All the best, Latoya (Team Member)

  2. Thankyou

  3. That was me. At one point i couldn't open my mouth past a certain point! I could barely get a fork past my teeth. My entire diet changed for a few months. I had to cut up my food like i was a baby, small small bites. And even then chewing hurt like i was breaking my jaw everytime. Not fun!!!

    1. That sounds so difficult. I can only imagine how challenging it must have been to deal with that kind of pain every day. It really puts into perspective how much people living with RA go through. It takes a lot of strength and patience to handle something like that. -Latoya (Team Member)

  4. Thankyou for letting me know you have it.
I have been to a jaw Physio a specialist and a rheumatologist and dentist and none of them can help with my situation. They said that I could have an operation but it would be pretty intensive and a very long recovery.
So it seems I will have to live with it.

    1. Hi . I'm curious, did they say what type of surgery they were talking about? I ask because my understanding is that regular RA treatments for inflammation, therapy, maybe a night guard are standard and that surgery only becomes an option if the damage is extensive. It seems the main reason for this is the seriousness of the repair or actual replacement. Did your doctors discuss the treatments I mentioned? While there are no easy fixes, you deserve for your medical professionals to try to offer some options. Best, Richard (Team Member)
